Ziglar was born in 1926 in Coffee County, Alabama. Although he and his family lived in poverty, friends would remember that he never lost his Southern charm or his Christian faith.
Ziglar was a veteran, serving his country in the Navy during World War II. After leaving the Navy, he married his teenage sweetheart, Jean, and began his career as a salesman.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t a particularly good salesman. He had to struggle to learn the principles of good sales strategy, and eventually his sales picked up. Ziglar reasoned that if he could teach himself how to be a good salesperson, he could teach anybody.
This was the basis for his first book, “See You at the Top.” There would be many other such books, as well as many speeches in which Ziglar passionately encouraged people to follow their dreams.
Ziglar is survived by hiw wife of 66 years, Jean, a son, Tom Ziglar, and two daughters, Julie Ziglar Norman and Cindy Oates. Another daughter, Susan, died before him.
